3D Site Models & Photogrammetric Visualisation

High-resolution site models for planning, inspection, measurement and spatial understanding

Certified Drone Pilots Ltd creates detailed 3D site models from carefully planned aerial image capture and photogrammetric processing.

These models can provide a clear spatial representation of buildings, land, infrastructure and site context, allowing project teams to review locations remotely, understand relationships between features and retain a visual record of site conditions at the time of capture.

Depending on the project requirement, 3D modelling can be combined with orthomosaic imagery, RTK-enabled capture, relative elevation information and other geospatial outputs.

From aerial imagery to an explorable site model

A 3D model is created from a structured sequence of overlapping aerial photographs captured from multiple angles.

Photogrammetric processing identifies common features across those images and reconstructs the site as a three-dimensional dataset.

The resulting model can help clients:

  • review a site remotely;
  • understand building and land relationships;
  • inspect visible external features from multiple viewpoints;
  • take indicative measurements where appropriate;
  • compare repeat datasets over time;
  • support planning, design and project discussions;
  • share site context with colleagues and external stakeholders.

Evidence appropriate to the decision

Not every site requires the same level of capture.

For some questions, conventional aerial photography may provide everything required. For others, a structured orthomosaic or photogrammetric 3D model provides additional spatial context.

Where greater positional consistency or repeatability is required, CDP can use RTK-enabled aircraft, appropriate control methods and more structured capture workflows.

The objective is to select a capture methodology that is proportionate to the decision being supported, rather than automatically producing the most complex dataset available.

Typical applications

Development & Planning

Understand site layout, surrounding context, buildings, boundaries and relationships between proposed development areas and existing features.

Construction & Progress Review

Create visual records at defined stages of a project and compare how visible site conditions change over time.

Buildings & Structures

Provide detailed external visualisation of roofs, façades and other accessible features to support subsequent review by the appropriate professional.

Land & Estate Management

Record land, vegetation, access routes, structures and other visible site features for operational or asset-management purposes.

Remote Collaboration

Allow stakeholders to explore a site without every person needing to attend physically.

RTK, mapping and spatial context

For projects requiring more structured geospatial outputs, CDP can combine 3D modelling with:

RTK-supported aerial capture · Orthomosaic mapping · Relative elevation and surface context · GIS-supported outputs · Repeatable capture workflows

Accuracy and suitability depend on the aircraft, camera, flight methodology, GNSS environment, control strategy, terrain and intended use.

Where a project requires independently validated survey accuracy, boundary determination, engineering certification or another regulated professional output, the appropriate specialist survey methodology should be specified.

Interactive delivery

Where suitable, models can be delivered through interactive online environments allowing clients to:

rotate and inspect the model;
zoom into areas of interest;
view the site from different perspectives;
access supporting imagery;
make indicative measurements;
share project information with colleagues.

Different delivery options can be selected according to the level of detail and functionality required.

More than a visual model

Discuss a Project

CDP's work increasingly combines aerial capture with site intelligence, structured evidence and geospatial context.

A 3D model is therefore treated as one possible evidence product rather than the automatic end result.

The most useful output depends on the question being asked.

For some decisions that may be a photograph.

For others it may be an orthomosaic, repeatable 3D model, relative elevation dataset or specialist survey.
